Arthur Rackham was an English book illustrator in the 1900s. At this time there was a high demand for beautifully decorated and illustrated storybooks which were given to children for Christmas presents. Unfortunately his work became less sought after with the start of world war one but in present day his illustrations are highly revered and the majority of his books are still printed today and I fondly remember having ‘Arthur Rackham’s Book of Pictures’ as a child.
As my role is director of design, I feel that this is a great place to start. It is refreshing to see such early illustrations of the original fairy tales and stories after being so used to seeing the cartoony, glamourised versions in Disney and other recent films.
